CHIHIRO TANAKA

2005年、自身の名を掲げて誕生した照明ブランド CHIHIRO TANAKA（チヒロ タナカ）は、
スタジオで光源と光を包む素材との関係を研究開発することからスタートしました。

ファッションデザインで経験を積み重ね、特にテキスタイルに精通する田中千尋が、
衣服と同じように素材を研究し、ゼロからオートクチュールのようにオリジナルの
照明器具をデザインすることは、自然な流れでした。

耐熱性のあるマテリアルをリサーチし特性を調べる。
光源となる電球は、透過性やグレアの検証を重ねる。
独創的な発想を立体裁断のように形にする。
この行為を繰り返し行い、光の表情を模索する。
光と素材に向き合う私たちのもの作りを表現する言葉
「 Light Couture（ライトクチュール）」は、この製作背景から生まれました。

固定概念をくつがえすような発想は、私たちが大切にしていることです。
もっと気軽に掃除が出来るよう、ランプシェードそのものに洗える機能を加えました。
Spore（スポア）やGerbelight（ガーベライト）、Sakulight（サクライト）シリーズは、
脱着可能なランプシェードで水洗いすることができます。

明かりが灯る時も灯らない時も、人と寄り添い、空間を共にする照明器具だからこそ
生活の情景を豊かにする、美しい造形の照明器具を提供します。

CHIHIRO TANAKA, a lighting brand named after its founding designer, was launched in 2005. The brand's creative endeavor started out as research undertaken at the designer's studio into the relationship between a light source & the materials that surround & envelop it.

It was a natural progression for Chihiro Tanaka, an experienced fashion designer well-versed in textiles, to design original lighting fixtures by using the same process employed in haute couture dressmaking: first study the materials & then design the product from scratch.

Tanaka explores the multivarious expressions of light through an ongoing series of creative experiments that involve studying the properties of heat-resistant materials, repeatedly testing illumination-producing electric bulbs for permeability & glare, & giving form to unique ideas in a way that resembles a couturier's draping technique. The term "Light Couture," which captures the brand's ability to manipulate the intimate interactions of light & materials, was born out of its approach to design & manufacturing.

In whatever area, what the brand; values is ideas that redefine conventional boundaries. One example of this is the washable function that has been added to some lampshades to save labor by making dusting unnecessary. The Spore, Gerbelight, & Sakulight series employ washable lampshades that are easy to remove & put back after washing.

By drawing upon its haute-couture-inspired creativity & expertise in textile design & draping, CHIHIRO TANAKA seeks to help create refined & inspirational spaces in which to spend refined & inspirational time.
